Almost everybody will have heard of Freecycle by now. The Freecycle Network is the daddy of reuse websites - a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving and getting stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping stuff out of landfills. Each group is moderated by a local volunteer and membership is free.
The RealCycle Network is an organisation of concerned members of the public who enjoy giving and receiving useable items that would usually end up in the local tip or landfill. Each group has a home in the Yahoo Groups structure. Run by Moderators local to each area, RealCycle allows you to offer items no longer wanted or request items of use as an alternative to buying new.
vDumpsters is the recycled version of vSkips for the United States of America. The idea is simple - Instead of tossing your unwanted items into a real dumpster you create a virtual dumpster or "vDumpster" and upload your items for other people to search and claim.
FreeUseIt aims to give things away, to make use of those things that are still useful but you might normally have thrown away. In these environmentally conscious days we all have to be more aware and create less waste. |
